Anti-gun fake news and rhetoric spurring backlash in NRA membership and gun-buying

In the wake of the mass murder allegedly (we have to say this) committed by a 19 year old young man with severe mental problems in a Florida high school, the National Rifle Association and gun owners have been taking some severe hits from the MSM’s court of public opinion. However, this is only the liberal lemming wave trying to roll over a whole lot of people that just do not agree with them. In a growing backlash, many people are choosing to boycott businesses who got behind the liberal cry to boycott the NRA, because it is clear that this association is in no way involved or responsible for the deaths of these innocent kids – the gunman is responsible for that.

The list of companies (presented in this piece from Vox.com) who dissociated themselves from the NRA includes some big names.

• Enterprise Holdings, operator of Enterprise, Alamo, and National Car Rental, said they were ending discount programs.
• TrueCar ended its car buying service relationship.
• Hertz ended its rental car discount program.
• Avis said it will end its NRA member discount in March.
• Symantec, which owns Norton AntiVirus and LifeLock, severed its partnership discount program.
• MetLife ended its discount program for NRA members.
• SimpliSafe, a home security company, said it ended its relationship with the NRA.
• Best Western said it has no affiliation with the NRA, nor is a corporate partner. It is unclear when it cut ties.
• Wyndham Hotels appears to have cut ties with the NRA in late 2017, before Parkland.
• First National Bank of Omaha said it would stop issuing co-branded credit cards with the NRA.
• United Airlines said it would no longer offer its special rate for the NRA’s annual meeting.
• Delta ended its contract for group travel discounts.
• Insurer Chubb said it would stop underwriting NRA-branded insurance for gun owners. Per Reuters, it made the decision months ago.

However, there is a response to this. Georgia Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle tweeted this:

He also promised to remove Delta’s $50 million tax break if they persist in this course.

In Florida itself, GOP lawmakers are moving to punish Delta Airlines and Enterprise Holdings for their behavior towards the NRA because state money is involved in their contracts. Specifically, the lawmakers are looking at rebidding Enterprise Rental Car contract with the state, and taking away a tax credit on fuel that is worth about $20 million from Delta Airlines.

We would do this to any company that wants to engage against political speech, whether it’s against the NRA or Planned Parenthood,” said state Rep. Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill), who added the Enterprise Rent-A-Car language Thursday night in House General Government Appropriations Committee deliberations.

“Anyone can engage in political speech,” said Ingoglia, who also doubles as the Republican Party of Florida chairman. “But we have a duty to watch and make sure government money doesn’t underwrite it.”

The backlash is on personal levels as well, with social media services noting that many conservatives who were not already in the NRA have joined it in defiance of the MSM assault on the association.

The only problem is this: The National Rifle Association did not commit the mass murder. Neither did  wild guns, yearning to fire on their own. A human being – a mentally unfit human being made a free choice to do this. Other human beings who WERE mentally fit and who were doctors and authorities that knew this young man was unstable, did NOTHING. This is a local problem stemming from many levels of irresponsibility and selfishness, but the NRA had nothing to do with it, and getting rid of this association will not stop other mass shootings.

This is what to expect from a bunch of people who are ruled by their emotions and who do not give themselves time to think this matter through responsibly.

Even the backlash with people joining the NRA is emotional. It, too should be thought out, not that being a member does anything. I believe I was a member for a year. They made some money from my membership. That is all. But the Association itself did not put the gun in that boy’s hands, nor did it tell him to shoot other kids, and it certainly did not tell all the doctors, foster parents and police officers that knew this kid was a disaster waiting to happen to do nothing.
