Iraq 3 is underway. George W. is somewhere in Texas laughing his ass off.

It was only a matter of time before Obama would commit the US to Iraq 3. Airstrikes have officially begun, here’s how things are going…

US military aircraft have conducted an airstrike on artillery used by the forces of the Islamic State (formerly ISIS). Rear Admiral John Kirby said the attack took place to help defend Kurdish forces near Erbil, Iraq.

Two F/A-18 aircraft dropped 500-pound laser-guided bombs on a mobile artillery piece near the city of Erbil. US personnel are based in the city.

“The decision to strike was made by the US Central Command commander under authorization granted him by the commander in chief,” Rear Admiral John Kirby, a spokesman for the Pentagon, said.

The US has also begun dropping relief supplies to the refugees.

What’s next? The ISIS response, which should be disgusting and entertaining all at once, as ISIS rarely fails to disappoint. Possibilities include some kind of mass flooding or water related tactic now that ISIS is pretty much in control of Iraq’s dams and water supplies.

Mosul Dam

From Voice of America:

Islamic State fighters seized control of Iraq’s biggest dam, an oilfield and two more towns on Sunday after inflicting their first major defeat on Kurdish forces since sweeping through the region in June.

Local officials said militants with the extremist group Islamic State took control of the towns of Zumar and Sinjar near the city of Mosul on Sunday, waging fierce clashes with Kurdish forces.

The French news agency AFP quoted a United Nations spokesman saying 200,000 people have fled Sinjar and said there are grave concerns for their safety.

Obama announced that America is coming to Iraq’s rescue…

“Today, America is coming to help,” Obama said, noting that although the United States “cannot and should not” intervene every time there’s a crisis in the world, it must act when innocent people are facing violence on a horrific scale.

Does this mean that Putin can intervene in Ukraine to stop the violence inflicted on the civilians of Donbass by the Kiev junta?

We also cannot stress enough how vital it is for Obama to not lose Iraq. Regardless as to who made the tragic blunder (cough, cough Bush, Cheney, Neo-Cons), if Iraq is lost to ISIS than history will remember Obama as the President that lost Iraq.

Another question that will also remain open is how many wars is Obama willing to commit the U.S. to?

Right now (regardless of what he says), Obama is officially all in with regards to Iraq and ISIS. He also is all in with regards to Ukraine and a pending conflict with Russia.

Syria and Libya remain open conflicts of U.S. doing (or undoing in this case).

Somehow I am not too confident in Obama and Kerry’s ability to handle the fires they took part in creating.
