Reverend asks Britons to pray that 4-year Prince George will be gay

(The Daily Caller) – The reverend who wrote that Christians should pray for 4-year-old Prince George to become gay has now seemingly backtracked his words and clarified exactly what he meant.

Rev. Kelvin Holdsworth explained that the post had been an effort to make the Church of England more inclusive of LGBT people, rather than a direct wish that the young prince himself become gay. “The post was entirely about the church and its policies around LGBT inclusion,” he wrote. He added that his commentary was not meant to represent any kind of commentary about the royal family itself.

Christians should “pray in the privacy of their hearts (or in public if they dare) for the Lord to bless Prince George with a love, when he grows up, of a fine young gentleman,” the original blog post read, according to The New York Times. The blog post post was removed, and Holdsworth posits that it is actually two years old.

The reverend apologized, acknowledging that his ironic comments about the prince could be seen as hurtful to the royal family, which he said he admires.

“I’m sorry that something that I wrote has been interpreted in the way that it has. It was not my intention to cause hurt and I regret that this has led to the current focus on Prince George,” Holdsworth wrote.

“We’ve seen media frenzies around the Royal Family before. No doubt we will see them again,” Holdsworth added, noting that he’s received many invitations to appear on TV or in interviews but refuses to do so. He said that he is uninterested in continuing any discussion about Prince George.

He maintained, however, that the church’s ability to welcome gay couples into the church who want to marry is of utmost importance. “Love matters more than political point scoring,” Holdsworth said.

The reverend was also the center of controversy when he held a service featuring a reading from the Quran suggesting that Jesus wasn’t the son of God.
