One thing is certain, the EU despises democracy, unless of course it’s in it’s favor.
In Crimea, the public overwhelmingly voted to be free from a fascists installed puppet government in Kiev, and Europe responded with sanctions against Russia, refusing to recognise the democratic vote and will of the people.
In Scotland, weeks before the referendum, Europe freaked out at the sudden surge in the pro YES vote and began a media and PR fear blitz to ensure that voting would skew in the NO camp’s favor…and luckily they succeeded.
Now that Catalonia is set to vote for independence in November, Spain is making moves to ensure that democracy (at least democracy that is not in their favor) is squashed.
Spain’s Constitutional Court has suspended a law on non-referendum public polls in Catalonia and a decree authorising a poll on the region’s sovereignty. Under Spanish laws, this should terminate preparations for the poll in Catalonia.
Catalan Prime Minister Artur Mas said earlier in the day that he would be prepared to present his arguments in court to tip the balance in favour of the poll in Catalonia.
And then we have Spanish Prime Minister Rajoy speaking utter nonsense, as his government enters panic mode over the clear majority of Catalonians who want out of Madrid’s grip.
Rajoy has no idea what he is saying anymore as Zerohedge summarises his recent comments:

*SPAIN TO CHALLENGE CATALAN INDEPENDENCE VOTE, RAJOY SAYS
*CATALAN VOTE WON’T HAPPEN, IS AGAINST CONSTITUTION: RAJOY
*CATALAN VOTE IS AGAINST RIGHTS OF SPANISH CITIZENS: RAJOY
Then followed that up these 2 stunners!!!
*CATALAN VOTE PROFOUNDLY ANTI-DEMOCRATIC, RAJOY SAYS
*LAWS CAN CHANGE THROUGH DEMOCRATIC MEANS, RAJOY SAYS
And concluded…
*CATALONIA STILL HAS TIME TO CHANGE COURSE, RAJOY SAYS
*DIALOGUE OVER CATALONIA MUST RESPECT THE LAW, RAJOY SAYS
*CATALONIA’S MAS MUST COMPLY WITH THE LAW, RAJOY SAYS
So in summary:
1. The Catalans want to exercise a right to democratically vote for their independence.
2. But Spanish PM Rajoy say a vote is anti-democratic and against the law
3. And then adds that laws can be changed through democratic means… (like voting for independence?)
Democracy, EU style!
