The Morality of Liberals – a Deeper Look at Insanity

Morality is a heresy.

During a course in an Eastern Orthodox Christian seminary, this author quietly observed as the course instructor wrote this very bold claim.

It was interesting to watch – or rather, feel – the reactions in the room, both from myself and from my brother students in the class.  There was a sense of surprise, and maybe even mild consternation, at this seemingly bold comment.

The instructor who wrote this axiomatic statement was himself a surprise, since he was an Archbishop in the Orthodox Church.  One would have expected that such an authoritative figure as an archbishop would have plenty to say about the validity of “moral living.”

In fact, the archbishop made an interesting and very relevant point.  Morality itself is falsely understood.

What is Morality?

Morality is defined as:

  1. principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior.
  2. a particular system of values and principles of conduct.
  3. the extent to which an action is right or wrong.

But for the Christian believer, morality as defined here is simply not enough.  For the American up until the 1980’s or so, our predominantly Christian worldview guided our understanding of morality.

Morality taken only by itself IS heresy – heresy here defined as dissent or deviation from a dominant theory, opinion, or practice; an opinion, doctrine, or practice contrary to the truth or to generally accepted beliefs or standards.

The reason morality alone is insufficient is because morality is only shaped by the worldview that generates it.

The Western world used to hold a predominantly Christian worldview.  This shaped our standards of what is considered “right” and “wrong” and this set of concepts guided our lives for thousands of years.

Want Insanity? Just Add Liberalism

But now, we have a “new” morality that has gradually taken over. This is the morality of the secular humanist, a.k.a. the liberal.

This morality is arbitrary, whimsical, and unstable.  In other words, whoever decides to can make a point that some action is “moral” or “immoral.” and then parade this term around and folks will fall right in line with the statement.

Examples of “immorality” we have seen alleged in the last year or two include:

  • Donald Trump – in person and in deeds. For some people, he IS immorality.
  • Christian refusal to abet homosexual marriages, e.g. the “gay wedding cake” stories
  • Not to accept (human induced) “climate change” as a reality
  • Tax cuts for wealthy Americans (wealthy is anyone making more than you)
  • Removing “net neutrality”
  • It is immoral for others to be wealthy (but if you are it is okay)
  • It is immoral to talk about one’s faith in Jesus Christ in the public forum because you might traumatize someone.
  • It is immoral for men to be attracted to women.  (But women chasing men is okay and if the men complain they are just lying.)
  • It is immoral to have a Sport Utility Vehicle (unless you are a Democrat or liberal in which case you are elite and exempt from this.)
  • It is immoral to criticize Islamism and bad behavior on the part of radicalized jihadists (but speaking badly about Christianity is actually one’s moral obligation.)

The list goes on and on.  Most recently we watched the effect of mere allegations of “immoral behavior” against the Alabama judge and Senatorial candidate Roy Moore.  The allegations alone prevented his victory in that state’s special election because a rumor of immoral behavior, tied to some rather strange stories about him pursuing relationships with young ladies far younger than he led to the unsaid assertion that Judge Moore was really a pervert, and not a Christian man.

The present-day assertions of “morality” or its opposite are quite widely removed from the traditional  values that not only America, but indeed all of the Christian world, once held dear.  Instead of an objective Authority that we felt we needed to answer to, now we assign god-like authority to people in power, who then often make up whatever moral code suits them for that moment.  The results of this are tragic – division and opposition of sexes, denial of reality, greatly empowered slander and gossip, and division, anger, even hatred, ginned up for no real reason, but felt very strongly, and even acted upon, by various people and groups.

The First Step in a Cure is to Define the Problem

There is a word for this kind of behavior, the throwing of gossip, accusations, and the mixture of lies with truth to destroy other people, to set them at odds against one another.  And there is a ruling identity who inspires all such behavior.

In coming pieces this author hopes to further expose the fallacy of the “morality” of the secular humanist.  We hope to expose this darkness, so that our readers might shake this burden off and recover.

We owe it to ourselves, to our families and children and to our country to take some time and consider the real Truth.  That Truth is the one who will set us free of this mess.

“That Truth is the one who will set us free of this mess.” Uh oh. Red Flag Alert. “Truth” with a capital “T.” One right answer. Brace yourself for yet another externally imposed dogmatism…

Maybe he’s referring to this wise Proverb; “While their hatred may be concealed by trickery, their wrongdoing will be exposed in public.” It does seem to say that we have a duty to make wrongdoing public….truthfully….and that as we do so, the lies and hate of nihilism in government will be exposed for the evil it contains. Censorship is the Christians biggest enemy, it prevents the wise (and there are many among us) from finding truth to discern right and wrong.

Not just Truth with a capital T; but who with what should have been a capital W.

“I am the Way, the Truth ( sorry ) and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.”

And upon this Rock, I rest my eternal soul.
